Introduction to Biomechanics - Neurodiversity and ADHD

This event is in partnership with Federation of Holistic Therapists, and is for well-being practitioners and bodyworkers. If you would like to attend this session please book via FHT with the following link: https://www.fht.org.uk/education/introduction-to-biomechanics-adhd-and-neurodiversity

Information:

Date: 18 April 2026

Prerequisite: Any Level 3 Therapist

CPD points: 3

What is this workshop about?

Biomechanics and postural alignment play a crucial role in bringing emotional and physical balance to individuals working with neurodiversity and ADHD. As a bodywork therapist, understanding how the body moves and functions can greatly enhance the effectiveness of treatment for these individuals. By focusing on the alignment of the bones and the mechanics of movement, therapists can help clients improve their posture, reduce muscle tension, and alleviate physical discomfort. This, in turn, can have a positive impact on their emotional well-being and overall sense of balance.

For individuals with neurodiversity and ADHD, maintaining proper biomechanics and postural alignment can be particularly challenging. These individuals may have difficulty with coordination, balance, and body awareness, which can lead to chronic pain and discomfort. By addressing these issues through targeted bodywork techniques, therapists can help clients improve their physical functioning and reduce their risk of injury.

Additionally, the emotional benefits of biomechanics and postural alignment cannot be overstated. When the body is in proper alignment, it can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and tension, leading to a greater sense of calm and well-being. This can be especially beneficial for individuals with neurodiversity and ADHD, who may experience heightened levels of emotional distress.

By incorporating biomechanics and postural alignment into their practice, bodywork therapists can provide a holistic approach to treatment that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of their clients. This workshop will provide therapists with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively assess and address issues related to biomechanics and postural alignment in individuals with neurodiversity and ADHD. By doing so, therapists can enhance the quality of care they provide and help their clients achieve greater balance and well-being in both mind and body.

Open to anyone, this 3-hour introduction workshop offers a practical exploration into how biomechanics can support the body in preventing, recovering from, and healing chronic emotional and physical pain or illness.

During this session, you’ll learn how the way your bones and joints are positioned, from the feet upward through the skeleton, has a profound impact on how you feel, move, and function day to day. When our bones and joints fall out of alignment, the body is forced to compensate. Over time, this can contribute to and create pain, fatigue, tension, and dysfunction in many different systems.

Through the simple (but precise) practices and theory behind The Ixchel System, you will begin to explore how gently realigning the body and changing the way you stand, move, and sit can restore a more natural and efficient structure, allowing the body to begin working with itself again rather than against itself.

During the workshop you will:

  • Learn the foundations of biomechanical realignment for emotional and physical pain

  • Understand how misalignment in the feet can affect the entire body above

  • Be guided through several Ixchel System practices that you can feel immediately

  • Experience the difference realignment makes in your body in real time

By the end of the session, you will not only understand the principles behind this approach, but you will also have begun to feel the impact of whole-body realignment for yourself.

Whether you are dealing with chronic pain, migraines, IBS, ME, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Plantar Fasciitis, recovering from injury or illness, Anxiety, ADHD, or simply curious about how your body can function better, this workshop offers a powerful first step into a body-first approach to emotional and physical healing and wellbeing.
